Gutter repair in Austin

A corner dripping onto the porch, a run that has dropped away from the fascia, or a gutter that pours over the front edge every time it storms. Most Austin gutter problems are a $150–$600 repair, not a replacement, and we'll tell you which one you've got before you spend anything.

The repairs we do most in Austin

Overflow that isn't a clog. This is the number one call. The gutter is clean, and it still sheets over the edge in a May storm. The cause is almost always capacity: a 2x3 downspout at one end of a 50-foot run, or a 5-inch gutter under a roof valley. The fix is a second downspout, an upsize to 3x4, or a 6-inch run on that side, and it's $150–$350 rather than a new system. Why gutters overflow in Austin rain explains how to tell from the driveway.

Leaking corners and end caps. Sealant on a mitered corner lasts eight to twelve years in Austin sun, less on the west side of the house. We clean the joint back to bare metal, reseal with a polyurethane sealant that stays flexible through 105-degree afternoons, and replace the miter if it's corroded. Gutter leak repair Austin-wide is usually $150–$250 per corner.

Sagging runs. Spike-and-ferrule hangers back out of fascia that has dried and split through twenty summers. The middle of the run drops, water pools, and the weight makes it worse. We re-hang on hidden screw hangers every 24 inches, 18 on runs carrying a lot of roof, and reset the pitch so water reaches the downspout.

Crushed or separated downspouts. Mowers, trailers, and the ladder that was used to hang Christmas lights. A crushed downspout backs up the whole run. We replace it, upsize to 3x4 while we're there, and re-strap it every eight feet. Downspout repair Austin homeowners call about is often the cheapest fix on this page.

Sections pulled loose by wind. Hill Country thunderstorms come with straight-line wind. A gutter that was already loose gets peeled back. If it's straight we re-hang it; if it's kinked we replace that run and match the profile and color.

Rotted fascia. Years of overflow soak the board behind the gutter, the hangers lose their grip, and the gutter ends up on the lawn. We cut out the rot back to sound wood, replace it with primed lumber or PVC trim, and re-hang. Fascia and soffit repair Austin crews do alongside gutter work is priced per foot on the same estimate.

Repair or replace?

Aluminum under 20 years old with problems in one or two places: repair. Sectional gutters with seams every ten feet that are weeping in three or four places, steel with rust along the bottom, or more than a third of the runs needing work: you'll spend most of a replacement patching it. We show both numbers on the estimate, and repair vs. replacement in Austin walks through the rule.

What a repair visit looks like

  1. Every run checked from a ladder, not the driveway, with a screwdriver in the fascia at the corners.
  2. Every downspout traced to where it discharges. If it's at the slab or onto a limestone slope, we'll suggest an extension or a drain, which is the cheapest thing you can do for the house.
  3. A written price. Repairs under about $400 are usually done on the spot if you say yes.
  4. Water through the repaired section before we leave.

If you'd rather narrow it down first, how to find a gutter leak covers the hose test.

What a repair doesn't fix

A 5-inch gutter with a single 2x3 downspout on a 60-foot run will overflow in an Austin downpour no matter how well it's sealed. That's a sizing problem, and the honest fix is a second downspout, a 3x4 upgrade, or a 6-inch run. We'll tell you when you're paying to reseal something that was never going to keep up, and the installation page explains how we size for the roof.

Where we repair gutters

Allandale, Crestview and Brentwood (1950s–60s ranches with original gutters), Hyde Park and Travis Heights (pier-and-beam bungalows, some with no fascia), Northwest Hills and Great Hills (1970s–80s homes on limestone), Circle C and Shady Hollow, Steiner Ranch and Westlake, and the northern suburbs. Sagging gutter repair Round Rock homeowners call about is usually spike hangers on a 1990s Forest Creek or Brushy Creek home; gutter repair Pflugerville and gutter repair Leander TX calls are more often builder-grade downspouts on 2000s two-stories. Gutter repair Georgetown TX is the same crew and the same pricing, Sun City included. Lakeway and Cedar Park have their own pages.

Questions we get asked

How fast can you fix a leaking gutter in Austin?

Usually within the week, and storm damage goes first. If a downspout has come off and water is hitting the slab or washing out a slope, say so when you call. We'll secure it the same day where we can and finish the proper repair on the next visit.

Can a gutter leak be fixed without replacing the gutter?

Almost always if the gutter is aluminum and sound. Corner, seam and end-cap leaks are a clean-and-reseal job. Pinholes from corrosion in old galvanized steel are the exception; sealing those buys a season, not years, and we'll tell you so.

Why does my gutter overflow when it isn't clogged?

Three usual reasons in Austin: the downspout is too small or there's only one on a long run; the pitch has gone and water pools in the middle; or the gutter is undersized for the roof area feeding it. All three are fixable without a full replacement, and we can tell which from a ladder in ten minutes.

Do you repair gutters on two-story homes?

Yes. Two-story work runs about 15–25% more for the ladder and safety setup, and a house on a sloped lot in Westlake or Steiner Ranch can be three stories on the downhill side. We use standoffs so the ladder never rests on the gutter itself.
